4GB Kingston USB Thumbdrive Malfunction Repair

This Kingston 4GB USB Thumbdrive sent by my friend for me to repair had a complaint of he had accidentally stepped on it causing it to malfunction. It was pretty easy to open the cover with the flat head screw driver. Remember, do not force open such cover because it can leave a bad mark on the cover.

After opening the cover the first thing I saw was three of the solder joints were detached (including the circuit line).

The connector had to be removed and throughoutly cleaned the circuit board using chemical. I purposely marked the circuit lines with number 1, 2 and 3 so that it would be easy for you to see.

Once done the marking, I carefully soldered a single thin wire to joint between the points that were broken. I had to solder three thin wires to complete the job.

When it was completed I tested the USB drive by inserting it to the CPU computer. It was working perfectly fine.

Now is the time to apply glue/gum onto the joints and the wiring as this way it can protect the wires from shorting to other components and the solder joints will not easy to detach.

Conclusion- Although the price for USB is cheap, I had to repair it because the information contain inside the drive is much much more expensive than the thumbdrive itself
